Remember that dreaded moment when you were a kid and your parents told you that the family was going to do some portraits? You remember being in a strange environment with blinding studio lights with a cheesy backdrop, staring down the barrel of a camera as the photographer says “CHEESE” to make you smile an extremely fake smile?

I still look at those images from those family portrait sessions that hang in my parents house, and look upon them and giggle because they are so incredibly generic and almost dystopic because there’s no real memory attached to the experience other than a feeling of dread apparent in our expressions. Instead of seeing expressions of love and adoration in my and my family’s eyes, all I see is a slight sense of terror.

This is just one thing we’re very proud of with Sunrise Studios - we never take a generic approach to our maternity, newborn & baby photography sessions, we always customize the session to cater to each of our client’s preferences to capture the genuine emotions of this momentous time. Why? We not only take this unique approach to capture each of our client’s individual personalities, but we also aim to create a beautiful experience during the session, providing an authentic space so that you can simply express the love you have for your growing family. We want you to remember these incredible moments forever. And of course, we want to be able to create gorgeous, real images that you love and that look great on your walls and your social feeds!

As with all of our clients, we took an individual approach to one of our recent clients, Alyssa and her gorgeous 3 month old baby, Ace. And what a wonderful session we had - they definitely filled our love buckets up to the brim!!

For all of our sessions, we provide a calm space where you can simply love up your baby (or baby to be) we aim to capture the authentic emotion as you connect with your little one. We take a photojournalistic approach and pretend to be flies on the wall while providing simple prompts for positions to get the best angles to represent the gorgeous moments. Our style of editing is bright and airy, however, we always aim to get to know you and your preferences and if a different vibe is what you’re looking for, we can change our editing style slightly to represent you and the vibe you’re looking for.

So how do we customize the session to you?

Upon the first point of contact with us, we try to get to know you as much as possible. We aim to understand your motivation for the session and why the session is so special to you. We simply want to get to know what makes you tick and your preferences and interests.

Alyssa is a gorgeous mother of 3, and she hadn’t ever done photos with either of her previous little ones right after their birth. Her motivation was to capture simple, intimate moments with her newborn Ace and to show off her stunning ‘roundness’ and glow after childbirth. Prior to the session, we discussed and shared inspiration, and we talked about what sort of design elements she prefers. We decided on keeping the setting simple, bright, natural with earthy tones so that the images could match her beautiful minimalistic home. During the session we chose a mix of close ups of intimate kisses between the two and wider shots to highlight her and her hubby’s charming bedroom with natural light spilling in.

Alyssa is an avid Instagrammer and has a particular vision for her feed and she loved our bright style and was also looking for more “moody & broody” shots. So we edited a mix of our regular “airy” and natural style and some more moody shots that we love, and really capture the pure essence of the moments with Alyssa and Ace.

The sessions are all about you, we will never give you generic images because we take this customizable approach. The more that we get to know you, the more we can tailor the session to you and your baby and create timeless images that you look upon and feel the emotion of the moment when you look at these images on your wall.
